Like the word itself, the philosophy behind it also begins in ancient Greece. Stoicism was founded over two thousand years ago by Zeno of Citium, teaching that true strength comes not from controlling the world around us, but from mastering ourselves.

Generations later, that philosophy found one of its greatest champions in Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor whose writings continue to remind us that discipline, composure, and character are the only advantages that cannot be taken away.
